Application Process
Our Internal Medicine Residency Program offers 10 positions each academic year for a categorical three-year training track. To be eligible for the program, applicants must be either a United States citizen or permanent resident. We currently do not sponsor any visas.
All applicants are required to apply using the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) application process. Applications submitted via mail, email or fax will not be processed.
We participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Please register with NRMP if you wish to be matched with our program. We will not accept any applicants outside the NRMP Match.

- Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
- COMLEX or USMLE scores transcript
- ECFMG Status Report (If applicable)
- Minimum of three physician references

- Personal statement
- Professional photo
General Requirements:
- Required MD or DO from an approved school of medicine within five (5) years of applying to the residency program.
- MD applicants must have passed USMLE Step II Clinical Knowledge with a score of 235 or better on the first attempt.
- DO applicants must pass COMLEX Level 2 with a score of 550 or better.
- All applicants must complete the scoring requirements by the time the rank order list is submitted and by the end of the interview season.
The program considers all candidates during recruitment season. Candidates are not discriminated against due to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies.
ERAS application
- All first year (PGY-1) positions are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
- There are no pre-match positions.
- ERAS applications are accepted from the first day programs may begin reviewing applications through December 31st of each year.

International Medical School Graduates
Graduates of medical schools outside the United States must have the following:
- Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Certificate before starting residency orientation
- A graduation date prior to April 1 of the application year
- Ability to obtain a Florida Resident Training License
Appointments
Applicants who successfully match with our program must provide the following documentation prior to the start of the program:
- Official medical school transcript with degree issued and date of issuance
- Copy of medical school diploma
- Copy of social security card
- Copy of current driver’s license
- Copy of permanent resident card, if applicable
- Copies of current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (only if completed prior to starting residency)
- If required documentation is in different names, then proof of name change (i.e. marriage certificate or court document) must be provided
- If any required documents are in a language other than English, then an English translation of the documents must be provided
In addition, applicants must successfully complete all UHS pre-employment requirements prior to the appointment date. Failure to provide any required documents or to successfully complete all UHS pre-employment requirements by the date of appointment will result in automatic withdrawal from the program.
